The charitable and educational purposes for which the foundation was established are to preserve and promulgate America's culinary heritage and the legacy of James Beard, maintain the Beard house as a historical culinary center, as a showcase for educational programs relating to food, as a performance space, gallery, research library, and meeting center for those interested in the advancement of the culinary arts in America. Additionally, the foundation was established to support other not-for-profit culinary organizations, provide scholarships to individuals pursuing a career in the culinary arts and recognize and promote excellence in all aspects of culinary arts. The Foundation achieves its mission through a variety of programs and events, including Impact Programs, Women's Leadership Programs, and Taste America.
