DeSales Community Development meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
"DeSales Community Development is a community-based non-profit that advances the ongoing wellbeing of neighborhoods as healthy, diverse urban communities through housing development, property management and community services."

Year, State Incorporated:
1976, MO

Also Known As:
DeSales Community Housing Corporation

As a community development nonprofit, DeSales works to develop and manage affordable housing in its historic service area of Tower Grove East and Fox Park and across the city of St. Louis. Additionally, it works to ensure a high quality of life for residents by providing social service support, such as rental assistance and eviction prevention, and by providing community programming, including youth sports.
Since the 1990s, DeSales has sought to improve quality of life in its service area through affordable housing. DeSales is currently working on plans for a senior housing development on a vacant site in Benton Park West. To date, DeSales has developed 249 units of rental housing. To better serve DeSales’ residents, the organization formed Fox Grove Management in 2005. Today, Fox Grove manages over 1,300 units of affordable housing throughout St. Louis.
DeSales offers Community-Based Service Coordination to all residents. The Community Services Manager is available to assist residents in accessing resources related to housing stability, utility payment, childcare, education, health, food resources, and more. Over the past two years, this work has focused on connecting residents to rental assistance, and working with them to avoid eviction through our innovative “Here to Stay” eviction prevention program.
DeSales began to offer youth and community programs in 2015 to build community and bring organized activities to the neighborhood park. Today DeSales’ SouthSide Rec runs free or very low-cost basketball, baseball, and soccer leagues, along with a youth community garden camp, cooking classes, and more for hundreds of neighborhood youth and families.
