Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County (VFC) reports that it recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who serve as trusted advocates for children. Volunteers are appointed by the court and ensure the child’s best interests are heard and addressed while they remain in foster care or other out-of-home placements. VFC volunteers undergo 40 hours of pre-service training in child development, cultural competency, trauma-informed care, the child welfare system, and court procedures. They also complete at least 12 hours of continuing education each year and receive ongoing guidance from VFC staff supervisors. The organization’s Truancy Prevention Program partners with local school districts to support students at risk of chronic truancy before court involvement and works to address barriers like academics, mental health, and family stability.
