The Crawford Child Advocacy Center meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"Our mission is to prevent and respond to abuse and victimization through proven child-centered methods, professional forensic interviews, and collaborative advocacy."
Year, State Incorporated:
1995, CO
The Crawford Child Advocacy Center (Crawford CAC) provides
forensic interviews and advocacy services in cases of suspected child physical
or sexual abuse, as well as situations where a child may have witnessed a crime
such as homicide. By offering a safe, welcoming environment for child victims
and their non-offending caregivers, Crawford CAC eliminates the need for
families to visit multiple agencies—such as law enforcement, Child Protective
Services, and the District Attorney’s Office—and prevents the child from having
to re-tell their story multiple times.
Crawford CAC offers emergency resources and referrals
to support families during and after the investigation process. It enhances
outcomes by bringing together child protection staff, law enforcement, and CAC
professionals for coordinated investigations. This collaboration improves
communication and data collection while saving an estimated $1,000 or more per
case.
The Center also provides on-site medical evaluations for children who may have
experienced abuse. These non-invasive exams offer a more private, timely, and
trauma-informed alternative to traditional clinic visits.
In addition to response services, Crawford CAC helps prevent abuse before it
occurs. Its Safety Smarts program teaches K–5 students how to recognize,
refuse, and report unsafe or unwanted touch. The program currently operates in
30 elementary schools and reaches thousands of children each year, including
those with developmental or cognitive delays. A newly added curriculum also
addresses online safety for upper elementary students.
