Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"provides advocacy and support for abused and neglected children by advancing coordinated investigations, prosecution and victim services."
Year, State Incorporated:
1998, CO
A Kid’s Place is the agency for two significant programs, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program and The Child Advocacy Center (CAC).
The focus of the CASA Program is to recruit, train and supervise volunteers to advocate for sexually, emotionally, and physically abused and neglected children who have entered the child welfare system. Prospective volunteers complete an intensive interview process, background checks and complete a minimum of 35 hours of training that includes court observation with new volunteers. By focusing on one case, CASA volunteers develop a depth of understanding and awareness about the children involved, ensuring that important details are brought to the attention of the judge and other professionals involved in the case. In the 2013-2014 fiscal year, the CASA programs served 196 children and youth with 80 volunteers.
The Child Advocacy Center, with two locations in Greeley and Ft. Lupton serves children who have been sexually abused or traumatized by witnessing homicide or extreme acts of violence. When a child is brought to the CAC, a Forensic Interview is conducted with the child(ren) and decisions are made regarding any follow up medical exams. A Family Support Advocate meets with the family during the intial visit, provides information, resources, support and Victim's Compensation and Victim's Rights information. The CAC provides comprehensive services through a multi- disciplinary team (MDT) approach with members from law enforcement, child protection, medical, mental health, victim support and prosecution. In FY 13-14, the program served 247 child victims and 501 non-offending family members.
