Stated Purpose:
"To help foster youth heal and grow from trauma through the power
of storytelling and filmmaking."
Year, State Incorporated:
2009, CA
Also Known As:
KITS
KITS' program motivates youth in--or who have recently emancipated out of--the foster care system to pursue storytelling through cinematic arts. KITS' program promotes a creative space for artistic expression; where foster youth can tell their narrative, from their perspective and re-author their endings; while being effectively trained in different sectors of film production from industry professionals. The youth are immersed in a 10 to 15-week program divided into a three-part series in which filmmaking elements are taught: screenwriting, acting, and film editing. KITS' program encapsulates the filmmaking process and acclimates youth with: therapeutic practice of storytelling, core concepts of film, career pathways, and introduction to film industry.
