Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place."
Year, State Incorporated:
1953, MO
Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM) is 105 years old and 30,000+ members strong. Covering a 28-county region in eastern Missouri, GSEM is the 5th largest Girl Scout council of 111 in the nation. GSEM’s mission -- to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place – is made possible with the help of 10,000+ adult volunteers. All Girl Scouts participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience -- a progressive skill building program that includes participation in a local Girl Scout troop, camping/outdoor programs, school-based outreach, robotics teams, and Council-led programs built on the four core program pillars of STEM, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, and Camp/the Outdoors. Year after year, GSEM strives to bring this empowering experience to as many girls as possible in the eastern Missouri region.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place. According to a 2017 Girl Scout Impact Study, benefits that extend from this leadership experience are inextricably linked to girls’ long-term success. In fact, Girl Scouts are more likely than non-Girl Scouts to have a strong sense of self, maintain healthy relationships that will guide future choices, participate in healthy activities like exercise and healthy eating, pursue careers in STEM- related fields, achieve higher excellence in academics, and participate in positive money management activities. Overall, Girl Scouts are more confident in their decision-making abilities from a young age and therefore more in command of building hopeful futures.
The impact of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is boundless in the ways that it shapes the lives of girls, encourages their potential, and instills in them grit and perseverance when working toward long-term goals. Whether Girl Scouts are camping, managing cookie sales, designing a robotics masterpiece, or serving the community, they are on a constant mission of discovery accompanied by friends and leaders who support and enhance their growth.
