Assistance League® of Denver, founded in 1958,
is a 501 (c)(3) Colorado nonprofit dedicated to identifying, implementing, ad
funding philanthropic programs to serve the needs of the Denver metro area. The
organization, with no paid staff, is a chartered chapter of National Assistance
League®. The nonprofit served 11,040 adults and children in fiscal year
2021-2022 in the following programs:
Assistance League Schools Program expanded to include six schools and serve
2,543 students. This program meets the Assistance League of Denver's goals of
having a substantial impact on those served by providing Operation School
Bell®, arts programs, family enrichment, literacy programs, and teacher
appreciation.
Operation School Bell provided new school clothes to 2,561 students, 2,500
health kits, and 5,000 books for qualified Title I Denver Public School and
Aurora Public School elementary students. Schools report that this program
increases both attendance and self-esteem for its recipients.
Hospital Equipment Lending Program (HELP) served the community by loaning out
medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, bath benches, etc.) free of charge to
2,709 people in need. 4,077 pieces of equipment were loaned. Individuals were
referred to HELP by physical therapists, hospital staff, and visiting nurses.
Scholarships were awarded to 49 students in need of financial aid at Community
College of Denver, Community College of Aurora, and Pickens Technical College.
Each college's financial aid office screens applicants and refers those who
meet specific requirements. The funding includes tuition, student fees, and a
book allowance.
Arts for Kids funded art programs at three Title I Denver Public elementary
schools and three Aurora Public elementary and K-8 schools, introducing 2,543
students to programs such as classical music, opera, theater, dance, and
storytelling.
Assault Survivor Kits® (ASK) offered new clothing and toiletry bags to 864
victims of rape/sexual assault brought to Colorado hospitals that have
implemented the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Program. By supplying
packages of clothing and toiletries for victims, a sense of caring and dignity
is restored.
ALDO Bears were distributed to paramedics and University of Colorado Hospital,
Department of Pediatrics Radiation Oncology, where they were given to 900
traumatized children in need of comfort.
Hospitality House prepared hot meals and sack lunches for 2,895 seniors in the
Denver metro area at the Senior Support Center, The Gathering Place, Urban
Peak, Marian Plaza, and Cathedral Plaza. A new project called "Blessings
