A Precious Child does not meet the following 3 Standards for Charity Accountability:

Standard 16 (Annual Report)
Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

APC does not meet this Standard because the 2023 annual report did not include:

  • Total expenses for each program in the same categories that appear in the organization’s financial statements (precious essentials, Marshall fire, Basics 4 Babies, giveSPORTS, empowerment center, Fill A Backpack, precious gift, other programs).

Standard 18 (Privacy for Written Appeals & Internet Privacy)
Address privacy concerns of donors by (a) providing in written appeals, at least annually, a means (e.g., such as a check off box) for both new and continuing donors to inform the charity if they do not want their name and address shared outside the organization, (b) providing a clear, prominent and easily accessible privacy policy on any of its websites that tells visitors (i) what information, if any, is being collected about them by the charity and how this information will be used, (ii) how to contact the charity to review personal information collected and request corrections, (iii) how to inform the charity (e.g., a check off box) that the visitor does not wish his/her personal information to be shared outside the organization, and (iv) what security measures the charity has in place to protect personal information.

APC does not meet this Standard because the privacy policy on its website, https://apreciouschild.org, does not indicate:

  • What security measures are in place to protect personal information that is collected.

Standard 19 (Cause Related Marketing)
Clearly disclose how the charity benefits from the sale of products or services (i.e., cause-related marketing) that state or imply that a charity will benefit from a consumer sale or transaction. Such promotions should disclose, at the point of solicitation: (a) the actual or anticipated portion of the purchase price that will benefit the charity (e.g., 5 cents will be contributed to abc charity for every xyz company product sold), (b) the duration of the campaign (e.g., the month of October), (c) any maximum or guaranteed minimum contribution amount (e.g., up to a maximum of $200,000).

APC does not meet this Standard because, in the past year, the organization participated in promotion for the sale of consumer goods that indicate that the organization will benefit from these purchases. The promotion, however, did not specify:

  • The actual or anticipated amount of the purchase price that will benefit the organization.

The BBB Wise Giving Alliance requested but did not receive complete information from the organization and is unable to verify the organization's compliance with the following Standard(s) for Charity Accountability: 1, 14

A Precious Child (APC) reports that it provides essential resources and holistic support to children and their caregivers to help them achieve their full potential in eight Denver Metro area counties. The organization’s Cradle to Career programs address unmet needs from essentials, like clothing, diapers, and school supplies, to educational and extracurricular opportunities to build the soft skills necessary for workforce readiness. APC offers eligible families the opportunity to shop for gently-used clothing, food hygiene items, home goods, toys, books, and baby supplies in their Resource Center, satellite resource centers, and community distributions with agency partners, which focus on large-scale distributions. The Fill A Backpack program gives children in need a new backpack filled with grade-appropriate supplies at the start of the school year. APC’s giveACCESS programs ensure that children in need can participate in sports, arts, and educational opportunities alongside their peers through donated equipment and uniforms, financial assistance, instruments, and other supplies. The Pathways program is dedicated to equipping young individuals, ages 16-24, with relevant experience, industry knowledge, and soft skills training to prepare them for the workforce and long-term success. During the holiday season, APC’s Precious gift program works to collect and donate new toys, gift cards, and other gifts to fulfill the wishes of children in need. In 2023, the organization reports it distributed 1,423,622 infant diapers and 456,000 pounds of goods, served 50,420 children and 13,014 adults, and collaborated with 344 community partners.
