Children's Aid meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:

Children's Aid helps children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children, youth, and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods.

Year, State Incorporated:
, NY

With a mission to help children living in poverty to succeed and thrive, Childrens Aid provides comprehensive supports to children, youth, and their families in some of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in New York City. We are a solutions-driven organization, and we know what it takes to ensure children grow up strong, healthy, and ready to succeed in school and life: excellent education and health care, social-emotional support, and strong, stable families.

Since our founding in 1853, Childrens Aid has been anchored in the knowledge that poverty cannot be overcome with a single service delivered at a single point in time. As a multi-service agency, we employ a holistic strategy that serves children and their families at every stage of development—from cradle through college and career—and in every key setting—home, school, and community. Today our 2,000 full- and part-time staff members empower nearly 50,000 children, youth, and families through our network of 40 locations including early childhood education centers, public schools, community centers, and community health clinics. We work primarily in the following New York City neighborhoods – Harlem, Washington Heights, the South Bronx, north shore of Staten Island and Bedford Stuyvesant/Williamsburg and downtown Brooklyn.

This cross-sector approach is more vital than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to destabilize the communities that we serve and exacerbate existing racial and socioeconomic inequity. In this critical period, young people and their families need a trusted partner like Childrens Aid providing a network of resources that they can turn to when experiencing the relentless challenges that have permeated this crisis—from food insecurity to remote learning challenges to the grief that comes with losing a loved one. Our staff has the expertise and tools to help clients overcome these struggles, keeping them on track to realizing their promise.
