American Foundation for Children with AIDS meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"to provide critical comprehensive services to infected and affected HIV+ children and their caregivers."
Year, State Incorporated:
2004, PA
The American Foundation for Children with AIDS (AFCA) provides help to infected and affected HIV+ children and their caregivers in Sub-Saharan Africa through sustainable livelihood and food security programming, medical support, sanitation and hygiene, educational support and career training, and emergency relief. AFCA reports that through long-term relationship building with target communities and leaders, orphanages, employment training centers, clinics, and hospitals it works to identify the root causes of issues within a community and build programs with local stakeholders to develop solutions. The organization's sustainable livelihood programs offer families resources and training to equip them to provide long-term care for themselves. AFCA states that its medical supply recovery program collaborates with hospitals and manufacturers in Pennsylvania to collect surplus, unused medical supplies, diverting them from landfills and shipping these supplies for use in the countries the organization works in. The organization also reports that it invests in the educational needs of children in the areas they work in in the following ways: paying for school fees, uniforms and books; sending room decorative and educational supplies to teachers at partner schools; providing reusable sanitary pad kits for female students; and donating books and requested school furniture for school libraries and early learning centers.
