All Stars Project meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
We transform the lives of youth and poor communities using the developmental power of performance, in partnership with caring adults.
Year, State Incorporated:
1981, NY
The All Stars Talent Show Network (ASTSN) involves young people, ages 5 to 25 in performing and producing hip-hop talent shows in their neighborhoods. Everyone at all levels of talent is included and everyone who auditions makes the show. They are cheered on by audiences of family, neighbors, volunteers and donors. This experience is transformative for all! In the Development School for Youth (DSY), young people ages 16 to 21 learn to perform as professionals, and they partner with business leaders across the country who conduct development workshops and provide paid summer internships at their companies. Operation Conversation: Cops & Kids (Cops & Kids) is an innovative police-community relations model program run by the All Stars Project in partnership with the New York City Police Department. The program uses performance, improvisation and conversation to help inner-city teenagers and police officers develop a positive relationship. The Castillo Theatre is the All Stars off-off-Broadway theatre. Our productions—nearly 200 over a span of 30 years—open up the world of cutting-edge political theatre for a diverse audience of all ages. More than 6,000 audience members from different communities attend productions every year at the All Stars Projects West 42nd Street center in New York City. Youth Onstage! (YO!) introduces young people, ages 14 to 21, to performance, improv and the world of theatre, offering free training in the performing arts under the direction of volunteer theatre professionals. Training emphasizes ensemble building and offers experiential outings, workshops, and classes, all led by theatre professionals. UX is a free school of continuing education that puts an emphasis on personal development and is open to people of all ages and educational backgrounds. There are no grades in UX and New York City is the campus. UX supports students to leave their comfort zone by experiencing new ideas, people, and cultures—unlocking a capacity for lifelong development and learning.
