Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation, Inc. meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
To
screen, treat, save and restore sight and hearing, in partnership with Lions
Clubs.
Year, State Incorporated:
1959, OR
The Patient Care Program, OLSHF’s longest running program
helps Oregonians receive sight and hearing saving surgery and treatment.
Mission Cataract provides state-of-the-art cataract surgery through a
multi-state network of surgeon partners.
The Oregon Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation’s (OLSHF) “20/20 Vision” School
Vision Screening Program uses dedicated, trained staff to conduct school vision
screenings statewide, using state-of-the-art, effective, accurate, objective,
safe and equitable technology (Welch-Allyn SPOT Model VS100 photovision
screeners), taking 13 measures of the student's eye, looking for eight common
vision conditions, in only seconds. Student screening results are immediately
captured and securely encrypted and sent to the OLSHF office, where they are
securely collated and returned to the school by the next week along with
resources for student families for low-cost or no-cost exams and eyeglasses,
including the Oregon Health Plan, VSP's "Sight for Students" and the
KEX Kids Fund which is administered by OLSHF. OLSHF provided over 150,000
students in Oregon with vision screenings during the 2021-2022 school year.
OLSHF's Community Health Screening Program partners with the Oregon Vision
Coalition, Oregon Optometric Professionals Association and Pacific University
College of Optometry as a resource for uninsured and under-insured adults in
Oregon for professional vision exams and vision aids.
The Lions Eyeglass Assistance Program (LEAP) and Optical Finishing Program:
Qualified adults can receive help with eye exams and new eyeglasses through a
variety of resources with their local Lions Club. The LEAP Optical Finishing
Lab is the first charitable optical lab of its kind in the US.
One of only 18 worldwide, the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (LERC) helps
Lions Clubs in transporting eyeglasses to a central warehouse. Donated
eyeglasses, once cleaned and calibrated, are then made “mission-ready” by an education
program at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (Oregon Department of
Corrections) for Lions mission trips worldwide, community partners and other nonprofits.
Most people have no insurance coverage for hearing aids and retail rates are
out of reach for those on fixed incomes. The Roar! Hearing Assistance Program,
partnering with local Lions clubs, supplies qualified applicants with exams and
hearing aids through a partnership with multiple manufacturers and local
hearing providers throughout Oregon.
The Lions Low Vision Clinic coordinates with a Pediatric Optometrist from
Pacific University to operate a traveling clinic to evaluate approximately 130
vision impaired and severely impacted students with low-vision and, to provide
assistive devices on an annual basis.
