Warrior Bonfire Project (WBP) reports that it provides opportunities for combat-wounded veterans to improve their lifelong journey of recovery and healing. The organization facilitates activity-based, small group retreats for Purple Heart recipients, active or non-active duty, to build community. WBP’s Bonfire Retreats are recreational, therapy-based multi-day events reserved primarily for up to six Purple Heart veterans. Participants can partake in a favorite activity, such as hunting, fishing, skiing, surfing, and hiking while enjoying therapeutic time with fellow veterans and promoting post-traumatic healing. Each retreat is concluded with a bonfire and a United States Flag retirement ceremony, which provides a chance for participants to honor fallen comrades. In 2023, WBP reported it held 32 Bonfire Retreats across the United States.
