Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

Kinship does not meet this Standard because the 2023 annual report did not include:

  • Total expenses broken down by major program areas in the same categories that appear in the organization’s financial statements (i.e. food wellness, mentoring, and outreach)
  • Total income.
  • Total fundraising expenses.
  • Total administrative expenses.
  • Total end of year net assets.

Kinship MKE (Kinship) offers programs to increase food security and wellness, foster belonging and community engagement, and empower stability and economic prosperity in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The organization’s SHOP program is a free market offering community members their choice of fresh produce, non-perishables, meat, dairy, and whole grains in a shopping experience that integrates health education and cooking demonstrations. The GROW program is a 27,000 square foot urban vegetable farm where neighbors harvest organic produce to feed others, host educational events, and share community meals. Kinship's FEAST events are collaborative meal that brings a diverse group of shoppers, volunteers, and donors around a common table. The organization’s FORM program offers service-based training for volunteers and neighborhood residents in social justice, spiritual formation, and civic action. Kinship also offers a mentoring program and a workforce development program in culinary arts, urban agriculture, and hospitality.
