Gifted Resource Council meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"To bring together the resources of the community, the schools and parents to help bright and talented children achieve their potential."
Year, State Incorporated:
1983, MO
Since its founding in 1983, GRC has served over 50,000 children through three programs: Academic Challenge Cup, Saturday Learning Labs and Summer Academies. All GRC courses encourage teamwork, task organization, flexibility and analytical thinking, as well as participatory decision-making. In addition to the intellectual stimulation of a challenging curriculum, students improve their social skills by working cooperatively with others. This is important because gifted children often focus on pleasing adults to such an extent that their social skills with peers suffer. Approximately 50 part-time, experienced teachers drawn from all parts of the metropolitan area staff GRC programs. For them, teaching challenging students is not a job--it's their passion. In addition to their own expertise, GRC faculty participates in in-service training designed to improve their ability to deal with gifted children, especially their social and emotional growth.
