Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place."
Year, State Incorporated:
1953, MO
Girl Scouts is the largest girl leadership development program in the United States, preparing girls to be drivers, designers, and makers of the future. Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM), established 107 years ago, serves more than 36,000 girls and adult members across the City of St. Louis and 28 eastern Missouri counties, making it one of the largest Girl Scout councils in the country.
From kindergarten through high school, each level of Girl Scouts offers unique experiences that build upon one another, allowing girls to explore their interests in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. Supported by dedicated adult volunteers and mentors, girls discover who they are, strengthen their voices, and learn how they can create a brighter future. No matter their background or ability, every Girl Scout is encouraged to explore her strengths, embrace challenges, and be herself.
At the core of the Girl Scout experience are four program pillars—STEM, outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship. Through these, girls cultivate curiosity, resilience, practical skills, and leadership abilities. They may design robots, hike and camp, practice financial literacy, or launch entrepreneurial ventures, all while growing as leaders of courage, confidence, and character.
In recent years, GSEM has expanded upon this foundation with innovative academic enrichment, mental health, and workforce development programs—initiatives that complement the traditional Girl Scout experience while building critical competencies for lifelong success. These first-of-their-kind offerings among Girl Scout councils nationwide prepare girls with the resilience, courage, empathy, and empowerment to lead with impact, strengthen their communities, and drive positive change for generations to come.
