Lighthouse of Houston meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
The Lighthouse of Houston was established in 1939 as a 501(c )(3) nonprofit organization. Their mission is to enable and empower people who are blind or low vision to realize their full potential. They impact over 14,000 people annually through their Health Services, Adult and Youth Programs, Technology Education and Employment Training, Independent Living and Volunteerism and Partnerships. They have three Premium Business Services, Call/Contact Centers, Document Management, Kitting & Packaging that focus on providing business, government, and nonprofit agencies with Solutions that Matter. The primary focus in selling their Premium Business Services is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for people who are blind or low vision. Of those they employ, 58% are blind or low vision.
Their strategic priorities aim to make a real difference in the lives of people of all ages and all stages of vision loss. Priorities are Community and Empowerment, where they will foster communities of belonging and accessible resources that enable personal and family well-being, learning, development, and employment. Technology and Innovation, where they will drive full accessibility by embracing technology and innovation. Partnerships and Philanthropy, where they will establish partnerships that expand their reach, resources, and capabilities. And finally, Commitment and People, where they will develop a people-centered organization that values compassion, empowerment, operational excellence, and people development to create inspired delivery.
