Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
"provides advocacy and support for abused and neglected children by advancing coordinated investigations, prosecution and victim services."

Year, State Incorporated:
1998, CO

Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy is the agency for two critical programs serving children and families in Weld County: the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program and the Child Advocacy Center (CAC).

The CASA Program recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers complete a rigorous screening process, including an in-depth interview, background checks, and a minimum of 35 hours of specialized training that includes court observation. By focusing on one case at a time, CASA volunteers develop a deep understanding of each childs unique circumstances and ensure that relevant information is clearly communicated to the court and other professionals involved in the case. During the 2024–2025 fiscal year, the CASA Program served 242 children and youth with the support of 85 trained volunteers.

The Child Advocacy Center (CAC), with locations in Greeley and Firestone, serves children who have been physically abused, sexually abused, or traumatized by witnessing homicide or extreme acts of violence. At the CAC, children participate in a forensic interview conducted in a child-friendly setting, while law enforcement, the Department of Human Services, and the District Attorneys Office observe from a separate room. This coordinated approach minimizes the number of times a child must recount their experience and supports effective investigation and prosecution. A Family Advocate meets with caregivers during the initial visit to provide emotional support, information, referrals, and guidance related to Victims Rights and Victim Compensation. The CAC operates through a multidisciplinary team (MDT) model that includes law enforcement, child protection, medical and mental health providers, victim advocates, and prosecutors. In FY 2024–2025, the CAC served 303 child victims and 524 non-offending family members.
