Partners meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
"to create and support one to one mentoring relationships between positive adult role models and youth facing challenges in their personal, social and/or academic lives."
Year, State Incorporated:
1987, CO
The organization operates a Community Based Mentoring (CBM) and a School Based Mentoring (SBM) program where it creates partnerships” between adults (Senior Partner) and youth (Junior Partner). In order to be eligible for its programs, all youth, boys and girls ages 7-17, must be referred by professionals in the community based on significant risk factors. After volunteer mentors are screened and trained, they are matched with youth. Partnerships spend an average of 1-3 hours per week together during their respective year. Though the majority of partnership time is spent in one-to-one activities either in the school setting or out in the community, these relationships also have intensive, and consistent, support from a Partners Program staff. In either program, partnerships can continue to be active with Partners beyond their first year if they choose until the youth turns 18.
The goal of its programs is to provide assets and protective factors for "at-risk" youth through one-to-one mentoring relationships. The specific objectives of its long-term mentoring relationships is to; promote positive youth development, increase self-esteem and self-confidence, prevent alcohol and drug use, prevent juvenile delinquency, provide support for abuse/neglect victims, and enhance school bonding, decision making and academic performance.
It measures program impact using a pre and post-test survey that helps determine the effect of its mentoring model on Junior Partners. This survey, called the Partners Mentoring Services Effectiveness Index, or PMSEI, has been used since 1999 and consistently shows statistically significant positive results for youth in our program.
