The Center for Family Outreach (the Center) was established in December of 2000 as a private, not-for-profit agency offering services and education for Larimer County youth, ages 11-18, and their families. In 2013, it expanded its early identification and early intervention programming to include youth ages 11-18. It provides one-on-one case manager supervision, intervention, education and support services for youth struggling with substance abuse, anger management, healthy relationship building, and other high-risk adolescent behaviors. It also provide support services for parents and guardians in order to strengthen the family unit. Classes at The Center focus on the development of life skills, drug and alcohol education, building self-esteem, bullying, gender-specific issues, and anger management. Its programs also encourage service learning and community involvement, personal leadership and responsibility, and the use of positive coping skills for addressing life stressors. It also offers group Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, art enrichment, academic tutoring, and workshops designed to improve parenting skills and healthy communication within families.
The majority of the young people at The Center are completing diversion programs, recommended by the district attorney, which are intended to discourage involvement with the justice system among first-time juvenile offenders. It also receives referrals from schools, families, and other community members to help youth before involvement with the juvenile justice system, before they become addicted to alcohol or drugs, and before their health and quality of life are permanently affected by long-term high-risk behaviors.
