Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Stated Purpose:
"To bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. To achieve our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, we build homes with affordable mortgages, repair and rehabilitate existing homes, counsel first-time homebuyers, and revitalize neighborhoods."

Year, State Incorporated:
1987, CA

Habitat EBSV began in 1986, when a group of community members formed three affiliates to address the critical need of decent, affordable housing in the Mount Diablo, East Bay, and Silicon Valley areas. These affiliates have since merged to form Habitat EBSV, with the commitment to build large-scale, multi-home developments and aggressively address the Bay Areas affordable housing needs.
Since its founding, it has served 10,384 people. Last year alone it served 1,262 people, mobilizing 7,654 volunteers who contributed 70,104 hours of service.
HEBSV is part of Habitat for Humanity International, founded in 1976 and headquartered in Atlanta, GA. With its global network of affiliates, HFHI has helped build, renovate, and repair more than one million affordable homes, sheltering more than five million people.

Habitat EBSV serves low and moderate income individuals and families through all three of our three core programs: Housing Counseling, New Home Construction, and Home Preservation.

Housing Counseling: As a HUD-approved housing counseling agency, Habitat EBSV provides the counseling, education, and preparation to help bring financial fitness and the dream of homeownership within reach for all community members. Its services are open to the public, however more than 90% of the people it serves are very-low and low income. It offers pre-purchase one-on-one counseling, budgeting, credit education, and first-time homebuyer workshops. During 2020, it expanded online options for participation to include webinars and an on-demand Financial Education Center.

New Home Construction: Habitat EBSV builds new home developments, which are designed and financed to be sold to low and moderate-income families. Selected homebuyer families go through a rigorous application process, which includes a thorough review of their financial circumstances by Habitat EBSV client relations staff as well as their current housing situation and need for a Habitat home. Families build the houses alongside community volunteers through required "sweat equity" and purchase them at an affordable price.

Home Preservation: Habitat EBSV helps transforms neighborhoods by providing critical repairs on houses that have fallen into disrepair, preserving affordable ownership opportunities while reducing neighborhood blight. Its Home Preservation program serves families who are financially burdened and economically vulnerable to displacement. Selected families must be income-eligible and provide documentation that they earn less than 80% of Area Family Median Income. Although this program serves any qualifying low-income homeowner, many are elderly or have disabilities, as well as U.S. veterans.
