Project FIND meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
Stated Purpose:
Founded in 1969, Project FIND's mission is to provide low and moderate income and unhoused older adults with the services and supports they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Our offerings include four supportive housing residences accommodating nearly 700 people and four older adult centers (OAC's) frequented by more than 3,500 older adults each year. We take great care in developing and implementing programs that will not only benefit our seniors health and well-being but that also reflect their areas of interest and talent. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. For all of these men and women, Project FIND is a critical resource, providing housing, meals, and programs that help individuals navigate the challenges of aging by encouraging community engagement and healthy living.
Year, State Incorporated:
1969, NY
Our model integrates sensitized property management and teams of in-house social workers co-located with our older adult centers. Project FINDs facilities are based in the Upper Westside, Times Square and Hells Kitchen communities. The organization's four supportive housing residences provide safe, permanent, and affordable housing to people who were formerly homeless or living in sub-standard accommodations. Our most recent residence, Park 79 opened in February 2023. Project FIND serves as the nonprofit owner and is in partnership with Fairstead on this newly renovated facility. Project FIND is the social service provider at Park 79 whose dedicated team provides older adults with supportive counseling, assistance with benefits and entitlements and guidance on health and wellness activities and services they may wish to pursue. Project FIND's innovative model of care integrates property management and residential-based social services with co-located OACs. In addition to delicious, freshly prepared meals, the organization's OACs provide a variety of in-person and online arts, crafts, cultural, and health and wellness programs leading to increased socialization where participants develop friendships and pursue their interests and hobbies. Our classes are taught by certified instructors and other qualified professionals residing throughout NYC. As an elder services agency, we are acutely aware of how peoples needs, life circumstances and well-being change over time. We take great care in developing and implementing programs that will not only benefit our seniors health and well-being but that also reflect their areas of interest and talent. Examples of activities that are provided include chair yoga, contemporary poetry, origami, ZUMBA Gold, line dancing, current event discussions, jewelry making, book clubs, watercolor drawings, knitting clubs, day trips to cultural points of interest and outings to Broadway shows. Our signature Homeless In-Reach (HIR) program at the Woodstock Hotel in Times Square, assists nearly 200 unsheltered older adults each year and provides them with the opportunity to take a shower, receive clean clothes, case assistance, behavioral health and housing placement assistance.
