Blue Card
The Blue Card (Blue Card) provides direct financial assistance to needy Holocaust survivors through a number of core programs, including ongoing support and one-time grants. The organization reports that it currently supports over 3,000 Holocaust survivor households in more than 35 states. The survivors served range in age from approximately 81 to 106, with the majority living alone and more than half falling 200% below the federal poverty line. Blue Card's core programs include: the Holocaust Survivor Emergency Cash Assistance Program, which provides grants to help survivors afford medicine, rent, homecare, food, and other basic essentials; the Stipend Program, which supports the most poverty-stricken survivors with monthly checks; the Telephone Emergency Response System, programmed in English, German, Hungarian, Russian, and Yiddish; and the Jewish Holiday Program, which provides funds during Passover, the High Holidays, and Hanukkah. The organization also operates programs on emotional well-being and social isolation. Additionally, the Natural Disasters and Severe Weather Fund provided life-saving support during Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and assisted survivors affected by the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires. To deliver these programs, Blue Card works with a network of approximately 172 social service agencies and YWHA organizations nationwide.
