MASSB Foundation complements the efforts of Maryland-based Departments of Social Services by providing financial assistance for needs that are not governmentally funded. MASSB Foundation provides financial assistance for basic needs, health and safety, and growth and opportunity. The organization reports that basic needs funding primarily provides financial assistance for housing, including rent, mortgage and utilities arrearage, and security deposits and first month’s rent to transition people from shelters to stable housing. Health and safety funding addresses the physical well-being of individuals through assistance for modest home safety modifications, and support for domestic violence shelters and child advocacy centers. Growth and opportunity funding helps address barriers to self-sufficiency by providing financial assistance for education and job training, transportation needs, appropriate clothing for job interviews and work, tutoring, school supplies, summer camps for at-risk children, and support to family service centers.
