Homes for our Troops (HFOT) builds homes to provide barrier-free living for Veterans and their families. The organization states that each home is built with over 40 major adaptations, which include roll under counters, sinks, stoves; roll in shower; wider halls and doorways; full home generator; pull down shelving; and storm room. Additionally, HFOT stays in touch with their Veterans after they move in, linking them with other non-profits and organizations that can assist them as they get on with their lives. One aspect of this assistance is providing each Veteran a pro-bono financial planner to assist them in building a solid financial foundation as they move forward. In fiscal year 2019, HFOT reports it completed 19 homes, completed significant work on 23 additional homes, added 15 Veterans to the program, and purchased land for 23 Veterans' future homes. HFOT estimates that the organization will complete its 300th home in late summer of 2020.
