Native American Rights Fund meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.
The Native American Rights Fund (NARF) works to preserve and enforce the status of tribes as sovereign, self-governing Nations by the following five priorities: preservation of tribal existence; protection of tribal natural resources; promotion of Native American human rights; accountability of governments to Native Americans; and development of Indian laws and issues. The organization provides legal assistance to Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide who might otherwise have gone without adequate representation. NARF reports that it has successfully asserted and defended rights of Indians and tribes in hundreds of major cases, and has achieved results in areas such as tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, natural resource protection, and Indian education. The organization reports it has established projects that aid in the growth and advancement of Indian law as well as addressing issues that affect Indian country. These projects include the Tribal Supreme Court Project, the Boarding School Healing Project, the Indigenous Peacemaking Initiative, and the National Indian Law Library. Some ($532,479 or 6%) of NARF's program activities are carried out in conjunction with fundraising appeals.
